After a nearly two-year campaign, HIV patients who have reached stable status can now receive prescriptions within three months. This is stated, after the change from August 2018, Ordinance 34 of 2005. for the procedure for payment from the national budget of the treatment of Bulgarian citizens for diseases outside the scope of mandatory health insurance.
According to Art. 22. (4) (New, SG No. 65/2018) Medicinal products may be prescribed for a period of three months to patients in stable condition, which does not require monthly control. This change will make it easier for doctors and patients to receive prescriptions. So far, the patients had to spend time during their workday each month to go to one of the five medical centers in the country, which provides this service in order to get their prescriptions and medications.
The campaign was run by LGBT Youth Organization Deystvie in partnership with LGBTI and Healthcare Organizations, and Bilitis participated in working meetings on the topic and in collecting signatures in support of amending Ordinance 34.
